FTV Start Spreading the News

After a successful Orientation Mini Cruise, the class of 2018 is ready for their first SeaTerm cruise.

On August 26th the TS Kennedy left Buzzards Bay with over 400 cadets candidates and close to 100 upper class cadet officers. The ship steamed across Buzzards Bay, and out into the Atlantic Ocean south of Block Island and Long Island.

On the 27th, they picked up the Pilot Boat and headed into New York Harbor under perfect weather conditions.

As the Verrazano Narrows Bridge loomed larger the shipping traffic expended, showing the cadets the vibrant Port of New York and New Jersey. Passing Brooklyn on the starboard side they could see the massive Queen Mary II. The Statue of Liberty stood tall as they turned in the East River, viewing the new Freedom Tower, the Empire State Building, the UN and Chrysler Building, all the while running alongside hundreds of cars on the FDR Parkway.

Once through the infamous currents of Hell Gate, they set their sights upon New York Maritime College. As the Kennedy passed the TS Empire State they fired nine shots from one of the Honor Guards' cannons, especially loaded for the occasion, finishing the salute with a resounding blast of the whistle. Thankfully, only the whistle greeting was returned. By nightfall the ship was headed out into the Atlantic and home to Buzzards Bay. This mini-cruise produced maxi-results and a tantalizing sample of things to come on SeaTerm 2015.

This year's SeaTerm will commence in January with the on loading of the ship, The tentive departure date is January 10. The Kennedy will head south to make a port stops in St Thomas, SanJuan, and Fort Lauderdale then return back to its Buzzards Bay home on February 22.
