We moored in Old San Juan this morning. A little cloudy, but scenic and very nice berth adjacent to all the sights of Old San Juan.
This afternoon was very busy as we continued our Caribbean basin FEMA familiarization to training ships. In the Virgin Islands we had 60 guests tour the ship and learn of the ship’s capability to assist FEMA in catastrophic incidents such as Hurricane Sandy. Today we had 180 emergency response type people from all agencies in Puerto Rico – PREMA, police, fire and the Red Cross. It was great to be able to show off the ship – and I personally was impressed at how clean the ship was for our guests. My thanks to all the cadets that volunteered to help lead and assist in tours, and to the support bill cadets for giving the public areas the “squared away” look.
The tours were well organized by Steve Jackson from the Marad Norfolk Office.
